A man has been arrested after firing an arrow at a police officer in Christchurch today.
Police were called to a Harker Street house about 11.30am after the man was seen walking along on the street outside with a bow and arrow, southern police communications Area Shift Commander Tony Ellis said.
When police arrived at the property the man fired an arrow at an officer who then retreated while the Armed Offenders Squad were called to the scene, Mr Ellis said.
As police were unable to make contact with the man the AOS used gas cannisters to get him out the house, Mr Ellis added.
The man was arrested and was now in custody and inquiries were continuing at the scene.
