As we are coming into the wet months I was wondering what options there were for keeping the rain off? I am mostly into the Dark age period but I would be interested in options for other periods.
I will sit here and wait for the first person to tell me to harden up & not to worry about a bit of rain.

I refuse to answer that on the grounds that it makes it more important than it is.

For clothes try wool rubbed with lanolin

Is that a lady's item of head-gear hanging casually from his chair? And since when did the vikings have 14th Century "long" swords? Viking steel was twisted from multiple strands and then hammered together, right? Also, what about that surcoat? Didn't those garments come back with the guys who went on crusades in the 12oos to the (very hot) holy lands, who needed something to go over their armour? And since when did Vikings wear red crosses?
And look at the colour of that RED CAPE! Chemical dye, anyone?
So, do I get 10 bucks? Huh, huh? Smile
~Elspeth
P.S. I just read the post below- still think I should get 10 bucks for the sword!

Lanolin = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanolin

Also keeps your hands soft (great for those long sea cruises) and is a antirust agent. If you line your scabbard with untreated fleece it will keep your blade well waxed.

Nath,

Japanese straw cape is peasant garb but I seem to recall seeing one in some hungarian illustrations.

Black Library time....

Coolie hat?

Kettle helm... of course, classic "guard in the rain" hat.

Canvas sapper jackets, Date back to Alexandrian times? (Praetor)

Wool, wool and more wool.

There is a French movie called "Brotherhood of the Wolf" which has some very nice rainwear in it.
