Hello,

Some more information from http://www.ironfest.com.au/jousting.html

Featuring riders from all around the World, the St George's Day Jousting Tournament is extremely dramatic & colourful; full of the pageantry of an age long past. To fully appreciate this fantastic event you must be there!

The St George's Day Jousting Tournament will take place over the two days of the Ironfest weekend (this weekend), and yes, the picture shows Callum running against the Australian jouster Justin and Rod.

Humourously enough Dave "Redbeard" Smith is commentating it.

The St. George's Day Tournament has been won and run.

It was run under almost marginal conidtions with raw weather and high winds. A 400 kg wooden viewing gallery was blown over which shows just how bad it got.

The joust was won by Joram (surprise, surpise Very Happy ) who has also kindly agreed to pass on some of his skills at our July joust workshop. Rod Walker who should need no introduction came second and Petter Ellingsen (from Norway and 2 times Harcourt Park veteren) along with the Grey Rabbit (Phil Oliver) from Australia came third equal.

For the first time in my competitive jousting career I was unhorsed - by Petter Laughing

Rod and Joram run a specialist open field joust in full 13th century kit using solid lances and steel coronels which was way cool. As far as we know, this is the first time that a real 13th Century joust has been run, well since the 13th Century.

Dave Smith did an excellent job as Harald, the sound system had some issues and was challenging at times.

Pictures/Video of the event are appearing on YouTube and other sites like Flicka. A film crew has been covering both the Harcourt Park tournament and this tournament for the purpose of making a TV Documentary on the modern joust and the producer reckons that the end result will be fantastic.

Go Joram! Fantastic result.

Sounds like a lot of fun, bet the wind made the horses a bit more interesting Laughing Shocked

So that is what jousting is all about, that goes a long way to explain some burning questions I had.
