this would be a easy thing for the heathens to answer, ya killed off the majority of your livestock in winter anyway, so hot cooked meat and honey wash mead in the middle of a winter storm with friends and family would be one of the best things going at the time lol

the SPCA would frown on using dogs and cats as meat anyway so that is a moot point Razz

From the stuff I tried at the Wanganui NAAMA, it tastes like really beefy venison. It should be cooked the same way. I'd be keen to get hold of some actually.

I would agree with Angel, it's delicious meat and I also would like to get some.

During the seige of Acre, following the defeat of the Crusader States at Hattin, The beseiging remanants of the Outremor Franks were reinforced by Danes and North Germans. 1189-1191. (You could get fussy with the dates)

Saladin sent daily sorties of light cavalry, mounted bowmen in the Turkish style against the Earthworks & Palisades of the Franj, to harass them as they worked the seaward side seige against the Saracens in the city.

The Germans and Danes would sometimes be lying in the weeds awaiting these raids.

It took several days for Saladins Emirs to realise the horses were gone in the morning. They had been sending their enemy regular food parcels.

There's also a very good account of a woman in a Green Cloak using a "Long Bow" against his cavalry, outranging them.

I think it is described in The Crusades Through Arab Eyes by Amin Maalouf or not... maybe in the works of another Arab chronicler.

I have eaten it before when I was at a clinic at Isola a few years back.

We had on the BBQ some choice steaks off one of the young showjumpers that dropped dead of a heart attack when out on a hack & it had been properly hung and prepared.

It was very nice, lovely and rich meat like venison and no fat. I had 2nds! Wink

I don't mind eating other peoples horses but would only eat my own if I was starving and desperate as they are part of the family.
