Hi I'm into early music and very interested in Scandinavian and Irish music in particular.
A couple of years ago I built mysef a Langelik, based on grainy photos in an old book on Appalachian dulcimers by Jean Ritchie.
The Langelik is a dulicimer with up to 9 strings most of which are drones.
Mine has 7 and is played with a rod fretting the melody string(s) while the other 5 in my case are the drones.
It was a common folk instrument in Norway, possibly back to the Viking era
and there are a few CD's available of it being played.
While mine is not a faithful reproduction it sounds OK and was indeed built to see just how it sounded. Anyone else in the group come across this instrument?
If any one is interested I can post a picture of mine.

Can't play a single instrument (according to my musically inclined family, drummers are NOT musicians  ) to save my life, but I'm always interested.

Hail!
Heres a quick photo of it.
As you see it does not have 10th century tuning pegs!!!
However it is realtively easy to play and I get a lot of pleasure out of it.
One day perhaps I'll make a better version.
But at least I can get an idea of how it sounds and it goes well played with a couple of Danish and Orkney folk tunes I've learned.
Good on Irish laments too with the melody strings tuned down to F instaed of G. Like a lot of early instruments the tuning is modal and you tune it for the mode of the particular tune not just major and minor like modern music.

Hey Great!!! Hail to all!
Thanks for the webpage and video.
Now I'm looking for a horse so I can make a bow for mine as well.
It has a really great Medieaval sound when bowed.
I'm still wondering if I was right o use 2 melody strings actually.
The tune is louder but it makes it more difficult to play.
One thing he doesn't mention is what sort of strings he uses. So I'd better drop him an email and find out.
