Some photos from last Saturday's training:

The first two show the effectiveness of even a small cavalry wedge formation in breaking through a group of infantry.

The last photo shows infantry revenge in our team take-down drill

We are making good progress in putting together the elements required for our combined arms melee display which we intend to feature at this year's Harcourt Park. This will feature two teams made up of infantry, archers and cavalry.

The next practice is scheduled for October 18th.

Well the Spring weather has conspired to put a dent in our training sessions.

However, this coming Saturday, November 15th, we will be resuming these workshops. Our goal for this Saturday is to link together the various areas that we have been working on into a generic display format for both Harcourt and Manukau.

We held a really successful melee training session at Kaitoke last Saturday and got to the stage where we were able to engage in some free-form "capture the flag" battles with mixed teams of horse and foot.

The teams were also able to further their training in the cavalry wedge, pincer manoeuvres and dismount drills.

I have posted a small video clip of a dismount drill done at the walk on my FaceBook page.

Another melee training session will be organised for early next month (Saturday December 13th at this stage). By the end of which we should have a good semi-choreographed flag battle display ready for Harcourt Park and Manukau.

Our last melee training for 2008 will be held this Saturday (13th) at 2 PM. It will focus on the melee display we plan to hold at Harcourt Park.

We will also hold a practice for this on site on Friday January 9th.
