Absolutely magic and yes indeed, the old ways are very often better than the modern ways. Very often today we think that we need to reinvent the wheel. but very often it isn't really necessary.

There was a guy at a Greylyn park festival [Auck] one year that had a manual lathe like the one in the clip, was pretty cool to see it in action..
