Can someone point me in the direction of how to make an archery butt using hay/straw? Prefer a website as I'm too lazy to get a book...

I have some hay bales in the garage at the moment but I think I can spare one to make a butt although I need some idea on how too

Cheers

The standard technique seems to be: make a stack of haybales, stick target of choice to the front, insert arrows as skill allows. Smile

so in cindys case that wil be at will but in my case that'll probably be once in a while and then spending a lot of time finding wayward arrows

Spray the flight and notch end of the arrows with fluro pink dazzel. I've done that before to help in finding crossbow bolts.
One thing you don't want to try is the tracking technique of rubbing some cheese on the end and let the dog find the bolts afterwards. You get the heads back at least but the rest of it is kinda useless after being gnawed on. Smile

I read another tip that you wrap the arrow shaft in reflector tape and wait until dark and shine a torch around, apparently that works really well.

Of course there is the other trick - just don't miss the target Shocked

I have actually seen arrows on long flat tragectories bury themselves almost underground. The shaft lies under the grass roots!

You find these ones by mowing the grass.... and watching bits of shaft fly out...Sad

Don't Miss. (still the best advice!)
