Not that I would intend to do this but this saddle would make an interesting example to base a period one off although I imgaine for the horse that it would be blimmin uncomfortable let alone for the rider!

My ass hurts just looking at those big metal bits on the seat...

Though I have read something about wooden saddles that had no soft covering, and apparently one simply stood in the stirrups the whole time or something... either way rather them than me Confused

One would assume quite a bit of padding but given that its the chinese who have tractor pulls using there scrotum and other tough guy events whoknows.

I heard the same and it is similar to bike racing where one stands a lot too, using only the upper legs to 'steer against the saddle'...
